            NICHOLSON - Rev. Charles Hardy, 87, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his residence.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was born in Commerce, the son of the late Miles Lenord and Bessie Jane Bennett Hardy.  He was a member of River of Life Worship Center and a United States Army Veteran and was a retired minister. Rev. Hardy was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Elizabeth Lord Hardy.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Gosnell, Nicholson; sons, Tommy Whitehead and Andy Hardy, both of Nicholson; brother, Albert Hardy, Jefferson; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services will be at held at 2 P.m., Friday, May 24, at River of Life Worship Center with the Revs. Bruce Kesler, Bobby Ivester and Marty Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Nicholson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m.&lt;br /&gt;

            HULL - Homer Lee Carter Sr. died Saturday, May 18, 2013. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Brantley Allen and Ina Bell Morris Carter. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by a sister, Ina Mae Meadow; and brothers, Howell, Zeke, Oliver Brantley, and Brantley Allen Carter Jr. Mr. Carter was retired from the UGA as a building inspector and was a United States Air Force Veteran.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Faye Jones Carter; daughter; Janice (Ralph) Meissner; son, Homer Lee &quot;Sonny&quot; Carter Jr.; brother, H. Elmo (Blanche) Carter; grandchildren, Cortney Faye Carter, Carter Edward Meissner, and Allen David Meissner; and a great-grandchild, Madison Faye Messer.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 21, at Brown Chapel, Danielsville. The Rev. Barry Black officiated. Burial was at Colbert Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Vickery, Bob Ward, Roger Sudeth, Mitchell, Kenneth, and Jim Meadow.&lt;br /&gt;

            ATHENS -  Sandra Claudine Looney, 63, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the St. Mary&#039;s Hospice House in Bogart.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Lilly Bell Brown Looney.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include children, Melissa Ann Smith, Ila, Marvin Claude (Tina) Scoggins, Ila, Darren Michael (Melissa) Scoggins, Commerce, and Darrell Lee (Julie) Scoggins, Maysville; four brothers; one sister; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with interment following in the Howington Cemetery in Nicholson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 22, from 6 to 9 p.m.&lt;br /&gt;

            KIAWAY ISLAND, S.C. - Rhonwyn “Rhondy” Valdes Huff, 57, wife Charles M. Huff, entered into eternal rest Friday, May 3, 2013. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She was born May 9, 1955, in Atlanta, the daughter of Eugenia “Gena” Breeden Valdes of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and the late Joseph Franklin Valdes. She attained her undergraduate degree from Converse College and graduate degrees from Georgia State College and Emory University. As a Medical Technologist, she was a former director of the Hemapheresis Unit under Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. She later attained a Masters of Teaching certificate at the College of Charleston.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Rhondy was a member of The Junior League of Charleston and the Chaine des Rotisseurs. After Hurricane Hugo, she became a board member of LowCountry ReLEAF. She was a member of the board of The Preservation Society of Charleston and Life Management Center of Charleston.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She was a member of Grace Church, Grace Church Hand Bell Choir, and Grace Cares. She captained the Country Club of Charleston Tennis Team in 2007 and was currently a member of RBTW (Reading Between the Wines) Book Club.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband of 27 years, Charles Huff; two children, Emily Palmer Huff and Joseph Moran Huff, both of Charleston; brother, James Valdes (Barbara), Austin, Texas; and a niece, Andrea Valdes Merritt, Atlanta.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 26, in Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, S.C. at 3 pm. Entombment will follow in Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium. &lt;br /&gt;

            AUBURN – Mary Louise Radford Awbrey, 86, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She was the daughter of the late Otis and Florida Alice Turner Radford and was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Awbrey.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include a son, Jerry (Stephanie) Awbrey, Winder; daughter, Rose (A.G. Terpie) Etheridge, Auburn; sister, Florence (Harry) Renau, Eutawville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Joseph Etheridge, Debra Martin, Shay Saenz, Meghan Awbrey, and Christopher Awbrey; and nine great-grandchildren.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home Thursday, May 23, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tommy Baker officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange at 3 p.m. the day of the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.&lt;br /&gt;

            MONROE - Roy Frank Stovall, 44, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was born to the late Pamela Jeanette Court and Gilford Albert Stovall on June 10, 1968, in Houston, Texas.  He was a master welder who traveled throughout the southeast welding natural gas pipeline. Roy was a member of The Orchard Church in Loganville, and enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and spending time with family and friends.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Green, Monroe; sons, Blake Stovall, Jacob Stovall, and Roy Stovall, all of Winder; and a brother, Gil Stovall, Hoschton.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, at The Orchard Church, 1950 Hwy 81 S., Loganville. Pastor Ben Cathey and the Rev. Scott Sims will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the church.  &lt;br /&gt;

            GREENSBORO, N.C. - &quot;We never out-grow our need for Love and Laughter, for Joy and Wonder.&quot; This was the creed for August Calvin Forrester who passed away on the 14th of May 2013. He was born in Sulfer Springs, August 4, 1921. His parents were Annie Lucille and James Farris Forrester. Calvin graduated from West Blockton High School, West Blockton, Ala., 1939, Howard College, Birmingham, Ala., 1949, Southern Seminary, Louisville, Ky., 1949-1950, and YMCA College, Chicago, Ill., 1954. He received a MA Philosophy in 1981, University of Georgia, Certificate of Gerontology in 1985, and Master of Arts, University of Georgia, in 1989. His philosophy was you are never too old to stop learning.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Calvin served as a Baptist Minister and Pastor from 1935-1949; YMCA Secretary and Camp Director, Corpus Christi, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1949-1955; and District Sales Manager for Rolston Purina Co. North and South Carolina from 1955-1965. Upon return to the State of Georgia while attending the Presbyterian Church in Commerce and at the urging of the pastor, he returned to Columbia Seminary to pursue studies to become a Presbyterian Minister; served as Teacher, Truett-McConnell College, Cleveland, from 1977-1986; Speaker, Success Leaders Speakers Service, Atlanta, 1976-1986; Coordinator Golden Olympics, Athens, 1985, and Trainer for Para-Therapist for the Elderly from 1984-1986.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A fraction list of his community work would include College Student Body President Senior year, received John R. Matt Student Pacific Services Award, President of Professional Social Workers Assoc. while in Corpus Christie, Texas; President of YMCA Youth Secretaries for Oklahoma and Texas while in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1972 he helped organize the Banks County, Georgia Chamber of Commerce and served as president for seven years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After retirement age he served as Pastor and Minister for several churches while maintaining an e-mail sermon for family and friends that grew to 150 before his health forced him to stop.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife Sarah Deaton Forrester; a daughter, Rebecca Brownlee and her son Duncan Brownlee, Raleigh, N.C. and another son, Jason Brownlee and wife Joan and children Mac and Eleanor, Austin, Texas; a daughter Cindy Forrester, her husband Richard Costello, Greensboro, N.C., her children Adam Bell and his wife Tan Hong Xia, China, Sarah Bell and her son Gavin,  Greensboro, N.C., and Bryan Bell and his wife Jessica and daughter Nova, Gainesville.  A son, Ernest Calvin Forrester and his wife Robin, his daughters Carly, Katie, Haley, Sugar Hill, Georgia and a daughter Jessica Forrester, Oakwood, Georgia.  His surviving brothers and sister are Harold Forrester and wife Gwen, Donald Forrester and wife Juanice, of Alburquerque, N.M., and Evelyn Marrow, Cottonwood, Ariz. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Toccoa, on Saturday, May 25, at 1 p.m. with the Revs. David Keister and the Paul Evans officiating.  The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.  &lt;br /&gt;

            JEFFERSON - Lucille Frances Love Fowler, 85, passed away on Monday May 20, 2013.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She was born in Hall County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Sanders Love. She, along with her late husband, owned and operated Fowler Auto Sales in Pendergrass and Jefferson, Fowler Country Store in Pendergrass, and worked on the family farm raising chickens and cattle.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. “Mark” Fowler; a son, Harry Fowler; brothers, Earnest and Clarence Love; and sisters, Annie Mae Benson and Clara Covington.&lt;br /&gt;

He was born in Sistersville, W. Va., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Davis, Jr. He was a retired United States Army Major and Jefferson businessman. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Drake Davis; infant daughter, Pamela Davis; and a daughter, Penny Elliott.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Silman Duke Davis, Jefferson; children, Joseph A. (Alicia) Davis, Athens, and Robin Lancaster, Massachusetts; stepson, Billy (Barbara) Duke, Jefferson; stepdaughter, Cathy (Kevin) Hooper, Gainesville; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A memorial service will be held at a later date. &lt;br /&gt;

She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, and knitting, but is best remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, loved ones stated. &lt;br /&gt;

A native of Winder, she loved spending time with her family, was a Fox News enthusiast, and loved listening to her public safety scanner.             WINDER – Charles “Charlie” Kilpatrick, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was the son of the late Bryant Whitfield and Marie Kilpatrick. Mr. Kilpatrick was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Smith Kilpatrick. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
During his life he worked as a probation officer for Georgia’s Pardons and Paroles. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Winder First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Winder Kiwanis Club and the Lion’s Club. Golfing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among his favorite things to do. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Revs. Terry Tippens and Larry Rary, Ret., officiating. Burial will be at Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.&lt;br /&gt;

            HULL - Sam H. Maxey, 77, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A native of Athens, he was the son of the late John Hodges and Thelma Carey Maxwell Maxey. Sam was retired from the United States Air Force following 20 years of service. He was a member of Hull Baptist Church.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Connie Pierce Maxey; siblings, Grace Chandler, Carolyn Haley, John Maxey, Ronnie Maxey, Linda Peck, and Brenda Maxey; and nieces and nephews.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, at 12 noon at Lord and Stephens Chapel with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Entombment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10 a.m. prior to the service beginning. &lt;br /&gt;

            GREENSBORO, N.C. – John &quot;Buford&quot; Holden, 89, departed from this life on Tuesday, May 15, 2013, at Maple Grove Rehab Center.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was born August 29, 1923, in Georgia, the son of the late Andrew Jackson Holden and Cummi Woods Holden. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 50 years, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded during his service in the United States Army.  Buford retired from Vanstory Oil Company after 30 years of employment and then worked as a courier for the Greensboro News and Record. He enjoyed gardening and fishing in his spare time.  Mr. Holden was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Sara Ann Minish Holden; a granddaughter, April Thomas; and all of his siblings.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include a daughter, Janice H. Thomas and husband Harry, Greensboro, N.C.; son, John D. Holden and wife Geraldine, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Jason Holden, Christie Bisbee, and Jennifer Sniger; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Funeral services will be held held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

            MONROE – Henrietta “Rita” Morgan Pettis, 72, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She was the daughter of the late Henry Lee Morgan and Dora Murphy Stinchcomb. She was a devoted member of the Cornerstone Christian Church in Statham. She loved her family dearly, and enjoyed reading, crocheting, and her pets, loved ones stated. Mrs. Pettis was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Wade Fullerton; and her spouse, Charles J. Pettis.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Survivors include two sons, Charles Lee (Tammy) Pettis, Lawrenceville, and Jerry Wayne (Marina) Pettis, Monroe; one daughter, Rita Faye Pettis, Winder; two brothers; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.&lt;br /&gt;
