AUBURN - Phillip Cronic, 56, died Saturday, December 5, 2009.
He was the son of the late R. B. and Blanche Nash Cronic. He was of the Baptist denomination.

WINDER – Benny DeLay Sr., 72, died Saturday, December 5, 2009.
A native and lifelong resident of Barrow County, he was the son of the late Roy and Kathleen Casey DeLay. He was a retired truck driver with Empire Manufacturing Company and was of the Baptist denomination.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Austin DeLay, Winder; children, Kathy Vanderford, Dawn Queen, Benny DeLay Jr. and Penny Hilliard, all of Winder; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Claudette “Bootsie” Austin, Hoschton, and Mrs. J.L. Austin, Lake Park.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 8, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Revs. Doyle Sims and Sheri Smith officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, December 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

WINDER - James William “J” Wall, 93, died Sunday, December 6, 2009.
Born on May 19, 1916, in Gwinnett County, he was the son of the late William Moses and Hattie Jones Wall. He was a retired machine operator in the dairy business and was a member of the Hope Baptist Church in Winder. Mr. Wall was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Bratcher Wall; and a daughter, Shirley Malpass.
Survivors include sons, James R. Wall and Ray Thomas Wall; daughter-in-law, Tawanna Wall; brother, E.H. Wall; and sister, Modine McElhannon, all of Statham; companion, Florine Chatwood, Winder; 15 grandchildren; eight stepchildren; over 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

‘Harold’ Jackson
ATLANTA - June “Harold” Jackson, Jr., born August 16, 1943 in Atlanta, died Friday, November 27, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Anna Peterson Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Rob Phyfer, Snellville; brothers, John Jackson, Perry Jackson and Wade Jackson, all of Winder. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Harold Jackson; parents, June Harold Jackson, Sr., and Hallie Mae Staggs Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a native Georgian, who grew up in Winder. He graduated in 1961 from Winder-Barrow High School, where he was Band Captain and recipient of the John Phillip Sausa Award. He played piano, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and guitar. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Mr. Jackson graduated from Emory University in Atlanta in 1965. After graduation, Mr. Jackson enlisted in the Army, where he served in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne and Special Forces. Harold was a longtime member of Mountain Park United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, where he played the oboe with the orchestra in the late 80s and early 90s. He became a member of Corinth Baptist Church in 1995 through immersion baptism. During his son’s Greg’s lifetime, Harold was a bowling coach with the Special Olympics in Gwinnett County. Harold worked for numerous corporations over the years including Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, Abbott Pharmaceuticals and Slick 50. He also sold cars, World Book encyclopedia, Electrolux vacuum cleaners and finally insurance, (mostly Medicare supplements). Harold was a truly great man and will be sincerely missed.
A graveside service celebrating the life of June “Harold” Jackson, Jr. was held Sunday, November 29 at Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder with Don Richards and the Rev. Don Pennington officiating.

HOSCHTON – Martha B. Collins Edge, 80, died Sunday, November 29, 2009.
Born on January 16, 1929, in Winder, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Lucy England Collins. Mrs. Edge was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Edge; a son, R. Douglas Edge; and brothers, R.L. and James.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Wayne Voyles; grandson, Jason D. Voyles; great-granddaughter, Hannah E. Voyles; sister, Nell C. Edge; brother, Bob L. Collins; and numerous loved ones including her wonderful caregivers at Gateway and her special hospice friends.
According to Martha’s wishes, there will be no services with a private burial to be held at a later date.

‘Jack’ Peppers
AUBURN - Jackson L. “Jack” Peppers, 85, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Barrow County, September 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Boss B. and Martha Kennedy Peppers. He was a member of the Midway United Methodist Church, and was a retiree of the Ford Motor Company of Hapeville after 30 plus years of service. Mr. Peppers was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Collins Peppers; three sisters and one brother. He was a member of The Grand Lodge of Georgia, F. & A. M., Auburn #230.
Mr. Peppers was a veteran of World War II, and proudly served in the United States Army in the European Theatre, under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, and fought in The Battle of The Bulge. In a personal interview General Eisenhower commended Mr. Peppers saying “That’s what I call a good soldier.” Mr. Peppers continued his service under General George S. Patton during the crossing of the Ruhr River.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Moore Peppers, and members of her family; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Glenda Peppers and Phil and Linda Peppers, all of Auburn; eight grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren; a sister, Willie Mae Brady, Tucker; brother, Eugene Peppers, Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.
