ROYSTON – Arleen J. Westmorland, 77, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Born in Sesser, Ill., on May 6, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Overton and Lola Mae Swisher Johnson. She was a convenience store cashier and a member of the Price Chapel of God. Mrs. Westmorland was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J. Westmorland; and a son, Ronald Eckels.
Survivors include a son, Martin D. Eckels Sr., Lavonia; daughters, Joleen Browning, LaBelle, Fla., Debra Lynne Maxwell and Marcia E. Moss, both of Royston; brother, Howell Johnson, Springville, Tenn.; sister, Violiline Featherston, LaBelle, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

DANIELSVILLE – Richard Eugene Norris, 67, died Monday, June 8, 2009.
A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Earnest Eugene and Mary Frances Seymour Norris. He was retired from RESA as a computer technician, was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, and had served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Burnette Norris, Danielsville; daughter, Vickie Norris Cape, Hull; sons, Paul Norris, Athens, and David Norris, Hull; stepsons, Rusty Melancon, Bogart, and Ben Melancon, Lawrenceville; sisters, Shirley Norris Sorrow, Athens, and Cathy Norris Ragsdale, Colbert; seven grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; five great-nieces; and five great-nephews.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, William Milton Cook; a son, Robert “Bob” Carter; and brothers, James and Bill Harris. Moving to Athens in 1954, she became the District Manager for Avon and may be better known for working at the information desk at the Georgia Square Mall when it first opened.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Kelley, Houston, Texas, Bill “L.G.” Kelley, Comer; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Kelley and Peter Zorbanos, Danielsville; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

MADISON COUNTY – William “Bill” H. Hutchinson, 83, died Friday, June 5, 2009.
Born on February 20, 1926, in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late George and Nell Hutchinson.
He was/is a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Athens. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines, and was honorably discharged in 1945 at the end of the war. He worked as a civil engineer when leaving the Army, working for the City of Lynchburg, Arlington County, and retired from Fairfax County in 1987, all in Virginia. He was instrumental in being founding members of the Warrenton Kennel Club, the Culpepper Kennel Club, and the Fredericksburg Kennel Club, all in Virginia.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary M. Hutchinson; daughters, Dale Scalici, Cynthia Smith and Karen Hutchinson; two grandsons; three granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held Monday, June 15, at 2 p.m., at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, which is located at 498 Prince Ave., Athens. Burial will be conducted later in Maryland at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

A native of Athens, he was the son of Mike and Glenda Harper Greenhaw of Watkinsville. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond Glenn and Lucia Johnson Harper, and was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church. He was a staff member of Harry’s Pig Shop.
