KIAWAY ISLAND, S.C. - Rhonwyn “Rhondy” Valdes Huff, 57, wife Charles M. Huff, entered into eternal rest Friday, May 3, 2013.
She was born May 9, 1955, in Atlanta, the daughter of Eugenia “Gena” Breeden Valdes of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and the late Joseph Franklin Valdes. She attained her undergraduate degree from Converse College and graduate degrees from Georgia State College and Emory University. As a Medical Technologist, she was a former director of the Hemapheresis Unit under Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. She later attained a Masters of Teaching certificate at the College of Charleston.
Rhondy was a member of The Junior League of Charleston and the Chaine des Rotisseurs. After Hurricane Hugo, she became a board member of LowCountry ReLEAF. She was a member of the board of The Preservation Society of Charleston and Life Management Center of Charleston.
She was a member of Grace Church, Grace Church Hand Bell Choir, and Grace Cares. She captained the Country Club of Charleston Tennis Team in 2007 and was currently a member of RBTW (Reading Between the Wines) Book Club.
Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband of 27 years, Charles Huff; two children, Emily Palmer Huff and Joseph Moran Huff, both of Charleston; brother, James Valdes (Barbara), Austin, Texas; and a niece, Andrea Valdes Merritt, Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 26, in Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, S.C. at 3 pm. Entombment will follow in Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium.

He was the son of Fredrick and Frances (Rinker) Laker and was born on July 14, 1941 in Keytesville, Mo. Mr. Laker was preceded in death by a brother, Earnie Kamphefner; sister-in-law, Sam Kamphefner; and niece, Brandi Kamphefner.

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Richard Palmer Huff, 96, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 10, 2013.
He was born in Danielsville on November 6, 1916, the son of Susan Burroughs Huff and Joseph Young Huff. He was the youngest of seven siblings. Growing up in Danielsville, he attended schools in Madison County. After graduating he attended classes at the University of Georgia then pursued a career in the retail clothing business, which took him to Elberton, where he met and married Emily Brooks. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily Huff; a son, Richard Palmer Huff, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Rhonwyn V. Huff.
After his marriage he joined the United States Navy as an aviation machinist mate, and for the duration of World War II served in Atlanta and St. Louis, Mo.
The following years saw a career in the insurance business, but fate took him to his final career as a banker at The Bank of Danielsville. He was instrumental in growing the bank to three branches and the ultimate sale to Century South Bank.
Richard Palmer Huff was a good man, loved ones stated. His word was his bond and he participated in multiple charities, clubs and organizations. Like his parents before him, the Huffs were members of Danielsville Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon.
Emily and Palmer were dear friends with a large circle of Madison County friends who, along with neighbors and extended family, were an important part of their lives.
Survivors include a son, Charles M. Huff, Charleston, S.C.; granddaughter, Emily Palmer Huff; and grandson, Joseph Moran Huff, all of Charleston.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens in Danielsville. A family visitation will also be held there from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

HULL - Charlie F. Marcus, 79, died Sunday, May 5, 2013.
A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a son of the late Larkin and Lizzie Sanders Marcus. He retired from Westinghouse/ABB after 37 years and was employed with Enterprise Rental and Acura/Volvo of Athens for the last 17 years. Mr. Marcus was a member and former deacon of Central Baptist Church, where he also had served as Sunday School Superintendent and in many other capacities over the years.
Mr. Marcus was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger, loved ones stated.
