ATHENS – Johnny Cletus Scroggs, 68, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County, he was the son of the late Henry and Annie Mae Chitwood Scroggs. He was a mechanic.
Survivors include sons, Johnny Scroggs and Dennis Scroggs, both of Eastanollee; daughters, Theresa Campbell, Alto, and Deborah Martin, Toccoa; brothers, William Wylie, Commerce, Kenneth Wylie, Homer, and Lawton Scroggs, Nicholson; a sister, Kathleen Clark; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

GRIFFIN – Charles Louis McPhail Jr., 61, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at his residence.
Born on May 23, 1948, in Anderson, S.C., he was the son of the late Charles Luis McPhail Sr. and Kathleen Alsena Rogers. He was a member of the Griffin First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was retired from the Thomaston Upson School System after 38 years of teaching. He was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity and a long time member of the G.M.E.A. and P.A.G.E. where he was a district board member.
Survivors include his wife, Jan McPhail, Griffin; brother, Roy A. McPhail, Memphis, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Agnes Woodall, Thomaston; brother-in-law, Franklin M. Woodall Jr. and his wife, Angie, Dublin; and a sister-in-law, Jill Woodall, Thomaston.
A memorial concert celebration of life and achievements will be announced at a later time by the family.
