Charles Overton Hill, 76, of Commerce, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Crawford W. Long Hospital.
Born in Banks County, he was the son of the late Edwin and Marian Harber Hill. He was retired from the State of Georgia as a Safety Director and was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Wood Hill, Commerce; a sister, Francis Marian Moore, Wellington, Fla.; grandchildren, Brandon Hill, Lauren Hill, Taylor Hill, and Caitlin Hill, all of Commerce.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 5, at the Homer United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim McLendon, James Turpen and Bob Hill officiating. Burial was at the New Salem United Methodist Church cemetery.

‘Jim’ Bergeron
James “Jim” L. Bergeron Jr., 73, of Nicholson, died peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospice House on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Franklin, La., on December 3, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Bergeron. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and Tulane University, and was retired from Chevron Oil Company, where he worked for 35 years. He had served 12 years in the Louisiana National Guard. Mr. Bergeron was preceded in death by a son, James L. Bergeron III; and a brother, Ralph Bergeron.
Survivors include his wife, Gay Haydel Bergeron; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Michael Zagata and Cindy and Michael Ryan; daughter, Nancy Barron; grandchildren, Dustin Barron, Lani Nelson, Corey Barron, Rebecca, Michael, Stephen, and Matthew Ryan; great-grandchild, Jaxon Barron; and siblings, Aubrey Bergeron and Mary Ann Keegan.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, December 5, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Athens.

The Rev. Edward Frank Harris Jr., 44, of Clermont, has died.
He was the son of Augusta Harris, Maplesville, Ala., and Edward Harris, Valdosta. Born in Montgomery Ala., Rev. Harris had lived in Valdosta for four and a half years before moving to Gainesville. He was the Youth Pastor at the Pendergrass Baptist Church. Before coming to Gainesville, he had pastored a number of churches and was a Chaplin for Compassionate Hospice. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Gainesville.

Cecil C. Colwell, 74, of Wilmington, N.C., died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Britthaven of North Chase.
Born on April 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Claude and Edith Self Colwell. He lived in Jackson County before moving to Wilmington, N.C. and has family here now. He proudly served our country as a Paratrooper in the United States Army.

Morene Garrison Coffee, 95, of Demorest, died Monday, December 1, 2008, at the Habersham Medical Center.
Born on March 26, 1913, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late John Marvin and Ollie McDuffie Garrison. She was a 1930 graduate of the Franklin County High School and graduated from Piedmont College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia. She was a school teacher for 41-1/2 years, having taught in Franklin, Rabun, Jackson, and Habersham County school systems. She was awarded the Teacher of the Year in Habersham County in 1974 and was included in the Habersham County Teacher’s Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Demorest Baptist Church and was the last member of her immediate family. Mrs. Coffee was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson “Jack” Coffee; brothers and sister-in-law, Howard Garrison and Dwayne “Shorty” and Madelene Garrison.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Lynn Coffee, Cornelia; granddaughter, Mary Beth Coffee, Cornelia; sisters-in-law, Louise Garrison, Carnesville, and Evelyn Garrison, Griffin.
