ROYSTON - Robbie Lucille Wells Roach, 89, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.
Born in Franklin County on August 3, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Mattie Howe Wells. She was a farmer, a homemaker, and a member of the Carnesville Church of God. Mrs. Roach was preceded in death by her husband, Henry James Roach; brother, Grady Dewitt Wells; and sisters, Omie Hickman and Willie Mae Bennett.
Survivors include a son, James R. Roach, Royston; daughter, JoAnn Stowe Allen, Royston; brother, Thomas Wells; South Carolina; sisters, Minnie Neal Moore, Ila, Dora Lee Ayers, Toccoa, and Merle Bridges, Royston; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

WINDER - Haven Joshua Nix, 32, died Friday, March 13, 2009.
Born in Clarke County, he was the son of Dale Nix and Elizabeth Nix, both of Winder. He was a member of Union Baptist Church.

COMMERCE – Beverly Joan Balthazor, 82, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Athens.
Born in Kankakee, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Lialas (Berger) and Harvey Coy. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church of Momence, Commerce, and finally in Athens. She graduated from the nursing program at Presbyterian (St. Luke’s) Hospital in Chicago, Ill., and worked as registered nurse throughout her life. Her last position was with the Heritage Nursing Home in Athens. She loved to play piano and sang in the church choir most of her life. She loved her family most of all, loved ones added.
Survivors include children, Susan and Marvin Mason, Jack and Frances Balthazor and Ron and Jane (Hudson) Balthazor; grandchildren, Thomas and Aimee Ballentine, Scott and Andrea Mason, Christopher and Angelia Balthazor, Katherine Hudson, Daniel Balthazor and Cara Mason; and great-grandchildren, Robert Ballentine, Nicholas Ballentine, Jonathan Ballentine and Myles Balthazor; sisters and brothers-in-law, Burdell and Tom Marcotte and Jerry and Nelson Ritsema.

MADISON COUNTY – Daniel Jackson Sorrells, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
He was the son of Rufus J. and Rosa M. Daniel. His mother passed away shortly after his birth and from age six, he was raised by his father and his new mother, Emma Sue Coile Sorrells, who was a caring and kind mother for her lifetime.
He grew up near Danielsville, graduated from Madison County High School, and attended the University of Georgia as a commuter student, graduating in 1933 with a B.A. degree in English and in 1939 with a M.A. degree also in English. He received an Ed.D. from Michigan State University in 1950 in counseling and college administration. He served as a personnel officer in the Army Air Corps in the United States and Japan during World War II, including training the Tuskegee Airmen. He spent two years as an advisor to the Minister of Education in Thailand.
He spent his whole life as an educator first in high schools in North Georgia including Atlanta Public Schools and later in locations around the world. His college teaching positions included the College of William and Mary, Michigan State University, Central Michigan, University and the University of Georgia. Some years later, he joined the staff of the Institute of Higher Education as a professor to initiate and organize a degree to develop college administrators. He retired in 1981 as a Professor Emeritus of Higher Education.
He was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving as a youth group leader, deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. He was one of the founding members of the Athens Torch Club and a member of the Athens Rotary Club serving as president in 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Kathryn; son, Steven Jackson; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Sue and Steven Juergens, Kristeen Sorrells and Ernest Windsor, and Dr. Kathryn Sorrells; grandchildren, Christopher and Maryn Juergens; sister, Mary Davis; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the family plot cemetery in Danielsville. Pallbearers were Carl Bergman, Ronnie Harris, Steven Juergens, Carl Schab, Don Seerley and Ernest Windsor. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Hill, George Marshall, James Miller and Ludwig Uhlig.

She was a very active and devoted member of Glade Creek Baptist Church who loved gardening, sewing and flowers. She was retired from Habersham Mills with over 25 years of service. Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Winslow Wilbanks; second husband, Carl W. Perry; grandson, Todd Wilbanks; and several brothers and sisters.
