CORNELIA – Jack Russell Porter, 70, died Friday, January 9, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Loganville on March 2, 1938, he was the son of the late Wilkins Haynie and Bessie Minnell Hammond Porter. He grew up in Jefferson, graduating from Jackson County High School, and also from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crises. He later retired as senior vice-president of the First National Bank of Habersham with over 30 years of service. Mr. Porter was a member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, the Cornelia Masonic Lodge #92 F&AM, and was Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Danielle Rangier Porter, Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Monique and David Johns, Flowery Branchy; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Dawn Porter, Clermont; sisters, Annis McClure, Jefferson, Grade Dalrymple, Anderson, S.C.; and grandchildren, Jordyn Porter and Kreed Coley, both of Clermont.
Memorial services were held Monday, January 12, at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Williams officiating. His wishes were to be cremated.
