Charles M. McCarty, 67, of Colbert, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Benjamin B. and Montez Herring McCarty. He was retired from the Olympic Drive United States Post Office after 39 years of service, and was a member of Colbert First Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Fowler; and a brother, Jimmy McCarty.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Hanley McCarty; sons, Scott (Angela) McCarty, Colbert, Greg Smith, Anderson, S.C.; brother, Billy McCarty, Colbert; sisters, Annie Kile, Warner Robins, Mary Davis, Dallas, Texas, Janie Jones, Danielsville, Polly Fowler, Concord, N.C., Bonnie Parten, Colbert; grandchildren, Eli and Hyes McCarty.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, at 11 a.m., at the Colbert First Baptist Church with the Revs. Brad Wilson, Jim Haralson and Clarke Davis officiating. Burial will be at Colbert Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Monday, December 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
