Lee Young Lewallen, 77, of Gainesville, and formerly of Cornelia, died Thursday, December 18, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Born in Banks County on November 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Corbin and Violet Williams Lewallen. Mr. Lewallen had over 40 years of law enforcement experience, including five years as the Chief of Police in Clarkesville and several years as security guard at Chestatee High School. He served our country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was Baptist. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid baseball fan, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his companion of 30 years, Gemilda Reynolds, Gainesville and formerly of Cornelia; step-daughter, Debra Hill, Gainesville; step-sons, Jerry Cantrell, Demorest, and Anthony Cantrell, Clermont; sisters, Willie Mae Crocker, Janice Hurt and Geraldine Perry, all of Cornelia; brother, Billy Lewallen, Cornelia; special step-granddaughters, Amber Hendrixson and Brittany Hill; seven step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Revs. Danny O'Kelley, Ernest Hunter and Roy Lee Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Saturday.
