Oravle Carey, 76, of Royston, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth.
Born in Franklin County on March 27, 1932, he was the son of the late George Fowler and Pearline Smith Carey. He was a retired truck driver, having worked with Bordon Milk Company, B&W Gas Company that later became Amerigas, where he retired. He was a lifelong member of the Harrison McCrary V.F.W. Post #4828, was a former member of the Royston Bass Club, and was Baptist. Mr. Carey was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Carey.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Donna Carey, Royston; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Janet Carey, Royston; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Steve Campbell, Royston, and Renee and Reese Lewallen and Michelle and Warren Gipson, all of Carnesville; grandchildren, Valerie and Eric Hall, Megan Carey, Cassie Carey Ayers, Jeff Campbell, Maribeth Gipson and Will Gipson; brother, Jake Carey, Carnesville; and sister, Myrtle Whitworth, Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 18, at the Middle River Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Osteen, Phil Campbell, Jerome Hill and Leon Carson officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens-South. Pallbearers were Harley Campbell, Clyde Harper, Joe Price, Joe Duncan, Jay Scott and Judd Scott.

Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
