Edward Reese Elrod, 88, of Pendergrass, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008.
Born on November 3, 1920, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late John and Eula Whitehead Elrod. He was retired from the manufacturing industry and was a member of the Pendergrass Baptist Church. Mr. Elrod was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was a recipient of the Bronze Star medal.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Laura Underwood Elrod, Pendergrass; daughter, Diane Reed, Gainesville; son, Dennis Elrod, Pendergrass; brother, Bruce Elrod, Pendergrass; sisters, Geraldine Elrod, Pendergrass, Martha Sheridan, Commerce; granddaughters, Amy Reed, Brook Buckalew, Brandy Elrod; and three great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, at 2 p.m., in the Pendergrass Baptist Church with the Revs. Kevin Burgess and Charles Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Honored as pallbearers will be James Cannon, Steve Underwood, Jerry Love, Donald Sheridan, Clelle Kinney and Thomas Underwood. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
