Barbara Nix

Barbara Ann Gerrell Nix, 61, of Alto, died Thursday, December 4, 2008, at her residence.

Born in White County on April 2, 1947, she was the daughter of Snow Dorsey Cooley of Alto the late J.W. “Willie” Gerrell. She was a homemaker and was Baptist. Mrs. Nix was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Gerrell; and step-father, James Arthur Cooley. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with her family, loved ones stated.

Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Jerry G. Nix, Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Dwayne Allen, Alto; sons and daughter-in-law, Luke and Connie Cochran and Danny Cochran, all of Cornelia; seven step-children; brothers, Billy Wayne Gerrell, Royston, Haskell and Neal Gerrell, both of Cornelia; sister, Brenda Arrowood, Cornelia; five grandchildren, Trent and Brent Nix, Kayla, Chelsey and Brooke Cochran.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 7, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home with the Revs. Danny O’Kelley and Corbin Coley officiating. Burial will be at Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
