Herbert Tanksley, 80, of Alto, died Thursday, December 4, 2008, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born on November 9, 1928, in Anderson, S.C., he was the son of the late Russ Lee and Dossie Ivie Tanksley. He was retired from J.P. Stephens as a supervisor with 26 years of service and was Baptist. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Shirley Tanksley, Alto; sister, Evelyn James, Seneca, S.C.; sister-in-law, Bertha Shirley, Alto.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, at 2 p.m., at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Turpin officiating. Burial will be in B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion #84, The Grand Reeves VFW Post #7720, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. The family will receive friends Friday, December 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, is in charge of arrangements.
