Ruby Doss Legg, 98, of Jefferson, died Thursday, December 4, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Minnie Nicholson Doss. She was retired from the food service industry, was a farmer along with her husband, and was a homemaker. She had been a member of the Dry Pond United Methodist Church since 1932 and was recognized for her quilt making abilities, having shipped many around the world. She was also known for her great cooking skills and made good use of her flower growing ability, having furnished flowers for many local Churches over the years. Mrs. Legg was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Jackson Legg; and a son-in-law, Bill Mahaffey.
Survivors include a daughter, Marion Mahaffey, Jefferson; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Joanne Legg and Doug and Kim Legg, all of Commerce, Bill and Sue Legg, Jefferson; sister, Inez Barnett, Commerce; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, at 11 a.m., at the Dry Pond United Methodist Church with the Revs. Grady Wigley and Phil Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Legg will lie in state in the Church from 10:30 to 11, and the family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
