N. Otis King, 67, of Commerce, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008.
Born in Banks County, he was the son of Lois Howington King of Commerce and the late William Wiseman King. He was a long time employee of the textile industry at the Mt. Vernon Mill of Harmony Grove Mills, was a past member of the Commerce Jaycees, a former member of the Commerce City Council, a former pastor of the Baptist Tabernacle of Commerce, and was an avid golfer and fisherman. Mr. King was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Todd King; and brother, Paul King, Commerce.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include a twin brother, Odell and Jean King, Ila; children and spouses, Amanda French, Commerce, Lynn and Randy Poole, Lula, Melanie and Kevin Lawhorn, Apple Valley, and Adam Matthews, Athens; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; a nephew; golfing partner of 25 plus years, Hollis Ray, Jefferson; long time friend and companion, Dianne Matthews, Commerce.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 5, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with Johnny Klugh and the Revs. Curtis Greene and Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial will be in the Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., and at other times at the residence at 183 Brookwood Ave., Commerce.
