Ezra Winfred “Wimp” Fowler, 72, of Danielsville, died Monday, November 24, 2008, at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Bond Community of Madison County on January 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Ezra and Livy Berryman Fowler, where he lived most of his life. He began work at the University of Georgia Grounds Department, retiring from there in 1996 as a tree surgeon foreman. In 1987 he and his wife opened County Line Produce in which he specialized in boiled peanuts. He was an active member of the New Hope Worship Center. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde, Haskill and Albert Lee Fowler; brother-in-law, Lawrence Chastain; and sisters-in-law, Bessie Fowler, Dot Fowler and Jo Fowler.
Survivors include his wife of over 51 years, Alice Freeman Fowler; sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin and Robin Fowler, Colbert, Eddy Ward Fowler and Timothy Earl Fowler, both of Danielsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Hugh Dove, Eunice Chastain and Evette and Charles Cleveland, all of Danielsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lendon and Doris Fowler, Hull, Ray and Dottie Fowler, Athens, George and Faye Fowler, Ila, and David Fowler, Auburn; grandsons, Myles Christopher Fowler, Danielsville, Logan Timothy Fowler, Royston, twins Evan Winfred and Blake Allen Fowler, both of Colbert; granddaughter, Autumn Nicole Fowler, Athens; and a sister-in-law, Mary Fowler, Bowman.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 28, at the New Hope Worship Center with the Revs. Mike Spence, Dennis Kesler and David Carey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Myles Fowler, Floyd Phillips, James Sorrells, Earl “Dick” James, Wade Ayers, T.J. Berryman, Gene Phillips and Randy Dove. Honorary pallbearers were retired employees of whom he worked with at the University of Georgia, along with current administration at the University of Georgia of whom he worked with.
