Charley Joe Smith

Charley Joe Smith Sr., 71, of Royston, died Friday, November 21, 2008, at his residence.

Born in DeKalb County on October 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Toby and Catherine Bradford Smith. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Wendell, N.C. Mr. Smith was twice married, first to the late Loretta Patton Smith; second to Joyce Burdette Smith, Royston.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie Joe Smith Jr. and Pamela Smith, Louisburgh, N.C., Don and Donnie Sue Smith, Atlanta, and Jamie and Grace Smith, Rochester, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law, Sheril and Junios Nichols, Raleigh, N.C.; step-son and spouse, David and Angie Graham, Canon; step-daughter and spouse, Teresa and Marcus Mills, Hull; grandchildren and spouses, Chris Smith, Jimmy Smith, Junios Nichols III and Debra Nichols, and Melanie and Josh Thomas; great-grandchildren, Alise Nichols, Raven Thomas and Mackenna Thomas; step-grandchildren, Blake and Angel Graham, Cody and Candice Mills.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 23, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Burdette officiating. Burial was in the Franklin Memorial Gardens-South.

Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
