Sammie Dean Smith, 66, of Royston, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at the Hospice House of the Upstate.
Born in Anderson, S.C. on January 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Katherine Arnold Smith. He was a brick mason and a lifelong member of the Good Hope Baptist Church. He attended school in Iva, S.C., and worked on the Partain Dairy Farm during the summer months. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved ones stated. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by infant twins, Dean and Deanna Smith; brother, James Buddy Smith; and sisters, Beatrice Smith Partain, Doris Smith Craft and Mary Ann Smith Freeman.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Findley Moss Smith, Royston; daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene Smith and Dr. Dubose Medlock, Waycross, and Melanie Smith and Bill Hudders, Starr, S.C.; step-daughter, Diane Moss; step-son, Perry Jones Moss; grandchildren, Heather Smith Osborne, Evans Hudders, Mayme Medlock and Ryan Hudders; great-grandchild, Hannah Osborne; and a brother, Frank Ray Smith, Anderson, S.C.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22, at Good Hope Baptist Church in Iva, S.C., with Dr. Robbie Garrett and the Rev. Curtis Bundy officiating. Graveside services followed in the Vanna United Methodist Church Cemetery.
