Robert Cowart

Robert L. Cowart, 80, of Commerce, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Holt Lester and Mamie Louise Williamson Cowart. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Joyce Smith Cowart; brothers, J.L. Cowart, Curtis Cowart and James Cowart; and a sister, Mary Kathy Ann Cowart.

Survivors include sons, Steve R. Cowart, Phillip M. Cowart, Dwyane Cowart, and Mark Cowart, all of Jackson County; a brother, Jimmy Cowart, Jackson County; sisters, Birtdell Lord, Bonnie Loggins, Virginia Austin and Betty Austin, all of Jackson County; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Howington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 19, from 7 to 9 p.m.
