David C. Jordan Jr., 80, of Athens, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008.
Born in Madison County, he was raised in Crawford and was the son of the late David C. Jordan Sr. and Nancy Mozelle Hix Jordan. He was a charter student at Truett-McConnell College and attended Mercer University and the University of Georgia. He taught school in Clarke and Madison Counties, and later became Director of the State of Georgia Y.M.C.A., where he retired following 30 years of service. He was elected in 1989 Honorary Life Member of the Georgia Y.M.C.A. board. In 2006 the Georgia Y.M.C.A. created the David C. Jordan Award to be given each year to the Georgia Y.M.C.A. Teacher of the Year. In bi-vocational work, Mr. Jordan served as minister of several churches in Oglethorpe, Clarke and Greene Counties for 52 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Jordan; a niece, Susan Battle, Atlanta; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8, at Galilee Christian Church with Pastor Tom Plank, the Rev. Richard McFall, Charlie Pitchford and Dr. Tommy Wood officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Elders of Galilee Christian Church.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
