MSG Robert Lee Hughey, 59, of Lula, died Monday, November 3, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
He was born on November 21, 1948, in Buena Vista, Marion County, the son of the late Joe Denmark and Sarah Hughey. He was reared by his grandmother, the late Viola Hughey. He was a dedicated member of Saint Paul CME Church, where he served as a Steward and on the Usher Board Ministry. He was a 1966 graduate of Buena Vista High School and received his B.A. from Columbia College. After serving his country for 20 years, 6 months and 4 days, he retired from the United States Army in 1989. After working 15 years as a parole officer, he retired from Florida State Department of Corrections in 2004. He was a member of Prince Hall Masons Hourglass Lodge #113.
Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Debora Jacobs Hughey, Lula; children, Yolanda Hughey, Oceanside Calif., Kenneth Hughey, Tyrone Thomas, Tokin Thomas, all of Tampa, Fla., and Sarah Parker (D.J.), Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, Kenneth J. Hughey, Christina Hughey, Haley Thomas, Asia Thomas, Elijah Hughey, Jeremiah Parker, Elisabeth Parker and Quonte Hughey; siblings, Jimmy Hughey, Veola Thomas (Willie), all of Lula, Marie Lewis, Atlanta, Annie Evans, Bernice Denmark, Deborah, Denmark, Rosa L. Denmark, William Denmark, the Rev. Milton L. Denmark (Lynn), Freddy L. Denmark and Randy Denmark, all of Macon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8, at Nazarene Church of Jesus Christ Church of God in Christ. Burial was in Saint Paul CME Church cemetery.
Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Oglethorpe, was in charge of arrangements.
