Jewell Ione Burrell Whisnant, 90, of Danielsville, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.
Born on February 23, 1918, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Altus and Ola Black Burrell. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Royston, the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Whisnant was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Oliver Whisnant; sons, Charles Leonard Whisnant and Joel Oliver Whisnant; brothers, Earnest Burrell, Aubry Burrell, Junior Burrell and Harold Burrell; and a sister, Evie Burrell.
Survivors include daughters, Melinda Payne, Alpharetta, Hilda “Gidget” Pearson, Danielsville, Lynn Bross, Irvine, Calif., Loydene Barton, Mission Viejo, Calif., Deborah Everette, Braselton, Joan Dailey, Eastanollee, and Pat Simmons, Toccoa; sons, Danny Whisnant and Irvin Whisnant, both of Carnesville, and Edward Whisnant, Martin; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 31, in the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Revs. Robert Thomas and Joe Wood officiating. Burial was in Roselane Cemetery.
Whitlock Mortuary, Toccoa, was in charge of arrangements.
