William Samuel “W.S.” Henderson II, 96, of Gillsville, died Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late William Samuel Henderson Sr. and Rose Suddath Henderson. He was a retired bus driver from Greyhound Corporation and was a member of the Midway United Methodist Church. He was former president of Amalmated Transit Authority, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a gentleman farmer. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sue House Henderson, wife Mary Evelyn Chandler Henderson; daughter, Janet Pratt; brothers, Howard Henderson, Lawrence Henderson and John Henderson.
Survivors include sons, the Rev. William S. “Sam” Henderson III, Newnan, Joe E. Henderson, Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter, Suzanne Haulbrook, Gillsville; brother, Tom Henderson, Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and caregiver Aida Benitez, Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 27, at the Midway United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sam Henderson, Howard Bledsoe and Earl Pirkle officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Ward’s Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.
