Willie James Hughes Jr., 59, of Lula, died Monday, October 27, 2008.
Born in Elbert County on January 21, 1949, he was the son of Willie Hughes Sr., Lula, and the late Nancy Flannigan Hughes. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and also attended Free Chapel Worship Center. He was employed with Synthetic Industries with 37 years of dedicated service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening, loved ones stated.
Survivors in addition to his father include his wife, Linda Mance Hughes, Lula; daughters and son-in-law, Tanya Hughes, Lula, and Tierya Hughes and Jeremy Brown, Oakwood; sons, Eric Williams, Augusta, and Terrance Hughes, Lula; grandchildren, Anterrius Hughes, Desmond Williams, Terrance R. Hughes, Makiah Few, Deja Williams and Kyle Hughes; uncles, George Bell and Amy, Clarkesville, and Irvin Chappel, Atlanta, B.C. Mance, Toccoa; aunt, Katie Richie, Toccoa; sisters-in-law, Sharon Dooley, Cornelia, and Tina and Neal Dorsey, Helen; brothers-in-law, Tommy Mance, Charlotte, N.C., Henry Mance, Atlanta, and Tommy Davis, Cornelia; special sisters and brothers, Janice C. Burton, Mt. Airy, Patricia A. Pitts, Gainesville, and Larry Chappel, Atlanta; and very special sisters, Betty Williams, Cornelia, and Margaret Williams, Mt. Airy.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 30, at 3 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Clarkesville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ray Davis, Henry Davis, Swayne Faulkner, Tommy Davis and James Andrews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
