DANIELSVILLE - Ernest Lee “Poke” Smith, 87, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at his residence.
He was born in Royston on October 12, 1926, the son of the late James Hoyt Smith and Richard Florria Nash Smith. He worked in maintenance for the University of Georgia and was a member of the Danielsville Evangelical Church.
Mr. Smith was a giant of a man, with the kindest heart. His gentle spirit touched so many lives.
He loved and was loved by his wife of 62 years, Allene Smith, Danielsville, and children, Dorothy (David) Osborn, Vidalia, Sandra (Sandy)Bell, Danielsville, Patricia (Morris) Fortson, Hull, and Tim (Ann) Smith, Danielsville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, at the Danielsville Evangelical Church with the Revs. Glenn Lyles, Tim Peek and Billy Frank Carey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 24. The family is at the home.
