Richard Garrett, 68, of Pendergrass, died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at BJC Medical Center, following an extended illness.
He was born on April 27, 1940, in White County, the son of the late John Henry and Dollie Abernathy Garrett. He owned and operated Garrett Welding Company for many years and was a member of Walnut Fork Baptist Church. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by sisters, Paralee Ramey, Rosella Roach, Frances Dunagan and Louise Ivester; a brother, John Henry Garrett Jr.; and a granddaughter, Lacie Paige Love.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Dunagan Garrett, Pendergrass; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Terry Pritchett, Cleveland, Annette and Gary Purdy, Braselton, Sandra and Rex Dauler, Greensboro, Tina and Mike Queen, Lula, and Angie and Donovan Spicer, Jefferson; grandsons, Adam Hicks, Tad Hicks, Richart T. Dauler, Tyler Dauler, Justin Pritchett Terrell, Pritchett and Hunter Queen; granddaughters, Alecia Purdy, April Purdy, Jacie Love and Jessica Pritchett; a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Hicks; sister, Virginia Roberts, Winder; and a brother, W.J. Garrett, Habersham County.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 21, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, October 20, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Papa i miss you very much. We had so many good memories together. When you would come pick me up from school when i was little we would always go to mayfield for some superman icecream. I wish you were here with us today, but I know you are in a better place up there with my sister(Lacie Paige Love). I love you both.
