BRASELTON - Jimmy A. Smithson, 80, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013.
He was born April 4, 1933 in Franklin, Tenn., the son of the late Howard and Lenora Smithson. Mr. Smithson was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Lola Appling Smithson; and brother, Bill Smithson. He was a graduate of Williamson County High School in Franklin, Tenn., was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was retired from Xerox Corporation as a service engineer after 35 years of service. He was a member of Hamilton Mill Presbyterian Church in Buford and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Patricia Smithson, Franklin, Tenn.; son, Mike Smithson, Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Lauren Smithson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Vic Webb, Mexico Beach, Fla., Rachel and Terry Underwood, Deatsville, Ala., Margaret and Donald McDaniel, Lawrenceville, Faye and Otis Presley, Hoschton, and Margie and Mike McDowell, Flowery Branch; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Emily Appling, Young Harris, James and Shirley Appling, Buford, Richard and Diane Appling, Young Harris, and Joe and Pat Appling, Lawrenceville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Bagley of Hamilton Mill Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
