COMMERCE - J.D. Potts, 70, died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Emory University Hospital.
He was born in Commerce, the son of the late J.D. and Lucile Kelley Potts. He was a member of Commerce Presbyterian Church and the Commerce Jaycees. Mr. Potts was employed at Alltel Communications before becoming the owner of the Sears Catalog Store in Commerce. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Kelley Potts; and sister, Eva Jo Potts Sailers.
J.D. loved watching his son, David, play golf and for many years drove local junior golfers all over the southeast. He also enjoyed just spending time at Deer Trail Country Club with all the guys. He started most every morning enjoying breakfast with friends at Parham's Restaurant. J.D. cherished his time with both of his grandchildren, Jake and Abby. J.D. truly loved life and lived life to the fullest, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Lovern Potts, Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tara Potts, Alpharetta; grandchildren, Jake and Abby Potts, both of Alpharetta; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Walter Wilson, Athens, and Kathy and Randall Perry, Grayson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, at Commerce Presbyterian Church with Carlton Allen and the Rev. Monty Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, November 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Commerce Presbyterian Church.
