Gene Stewart, 82, of Winder, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Oscar and Martha Banks Stewart, and had resided in Barrow County for most of his life. He was a member of Bethabra Baptist Church and was retired from the City of Winder, where he served as the sexton of Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Stewart was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Adams Stewart, Winder; children, Linda Cox and Rickey Stewart, all of Winder; a sister, Runette Smith, Winder; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Revs Ronald Hewatt, Jason Webster and Jack Burgess officiating. Burial will be in Bethabra Baptist Church cemetery.
Carter Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of arrangements.
