Riley Harris

Riley Harris Sr., 75, of Commerce, died Saturday, May 24, 2008.

He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Henry and Mammie Slaughter Harris. He was retired from the University of Georgia and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Harris was a veteran, retired from the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Borders Harris, Commerce; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Smauldon, Columbia, S.C., Patricia and Jasper Williams, Tyrone, Shirley Harris, Commerce; sons, Riley Harris Jr. and Randy Harris, both of Marietta, Raymond Harris, Commerce; brother, the Rev. R.L. Trammell, Athens; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 29, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.R. Brown officiating. Burial was at Jackson Memorial Gardens.

Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
