JEFFERSON - James Rush "Jim" Palmer, Jr., 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.
He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., the son of the late James Rush Palmer, Sr., and the late Mary Katherine Wood Palmer. He retired from Johns Manville as an industrial electrician with many years of service and was of the Baptist denomination.
Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy "Dot" Kesselberg Palmer; and a sister, Rose Palmer.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Greg Winn, Jefferson; grandchildren, Fallon and Shane Metcalf, Athens, Heather Butler, Carnesville, and Rush Winn, Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Max and Luke Metcalf, and Destiny and Serenity Winn; a sister, Carolyn Benton, Hixson, Tenn.; brother, Kenny Palmer, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a number of nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Brenda Craig, Jefferson.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 4, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Minister Tom Plank officiating. Interment will follow in Evans Memory Gardens with Robert Phillips, Fulton Wilson, Bill Thompson, Gary Black, Chad Black and Jake Davis honored as pallbearers. Johnny Beatty, Johnny Cannon, Nicky Peppers and Earl Carithers will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, at Evans Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.
