George “Andy” Betts, 59, of Hull, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008.
A native of Clarke County, he was the son of Eloise Dickerson Betts of Hull and the late George Betts Jr. He was retired from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department with the rank of Captain after 20 years of service, and was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Theresa Betts, Hull; children, Andrea Kay Betts (Roger Lott), Braselton, and Kimberly Dawn McGraw and husband, Michael, Danielsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Rachel Betts, David and Kathy Betts and Johnny and Becky Betts, all of Hull, Jimmy and Melissa Betts, Watkinsville; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathy Tate, Nicholson, and Deborah and Perry Hunnicutt, Madison; brother-in-law, Mark Strickland, Hull; grandchildren, Chase Conwell, Kristen Bannister, Logan and Carson McKissick, and Blake and Tanner McGraw; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Stuchell officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donnie Weathersbee, Perry Hunnicutt, Bobby Rich, Gary Jeffers, Mike Murray and Mike Anglin. Members of the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
