COMMERCE - Donald William Lester, Sr., 71, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Hart County on June 2, 1942, the son of the late Roy Thomas and Georgia Lee Cawthon Lester. He was a farrier and horse trainer for 45 years, a member of the Ohoopee River Horse Association, the Georgia Professional Farrier Association, the South Ogeechee Horse Association, AQHA, APHA, ApHA and PHBA. He was a past president of Mountain Stream, Banks County, Banks Crossing, Rolling Hills, Georgia Mountain and Gum Creek Saddle Clubs. He was also a member of Grove Level Baptist Church in Maysville. Mr. Lester was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Wooten and Connie Sue Lester.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Hardeman Lester, Commerce; children, Donald Lester, Jr., Commerce, Garnett Roy Lester, Loganville, Scott Johnston Shoemaker, Loganville, Janet Lynn Mokowski, Statham, Teresa June Brewer, Monroe, Heidi Leigh Lester, Loganville, and Amy Marie Carpenter, Pendergrass; 17 grandchildren; and one future great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ray Richardson, Swayne Cochran and John Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 14. The family is at the home.
