JEFFERSON – Robert Norval Allen died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at his residence following a brave fight with cancer.
Born on September 7, 1930, he was the son of Robert Louis and Mary Doutey Allen of Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a long-time member of Commerce Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of Oklahoma A & M with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce Degree.
While serving in the United States Army during the Korean War, he met and married his wife of 60 years. After leaving the Army as a 1st Lieutenant, they moved to Spokane Wash., where he began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company. Robert worked for Phillips 66 for 31 years before retiring as the Southeast Regional Credit Manager for Mansfield Oil of Gainesville, Ga., upon his return to Georgia.
After leaving Mansfield, he continued service through his church and volunteering with the Tri-County ARC, Habitat for Humanity, and sat on the Board of Department of Children and Family Services of Jackson County.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Allen; sons, Myron L. and Debbie Allen, Westminster, S.C., Michael W. and Vickie Allen, Lawrenceville, Mark E. Allen, Hardy Ark.; and daughter, Kassandra J. Tolbert, Dacula. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with two nieces and their families.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 24, at Commerce Presbyterian Church, 89 Lakeview Dr., Commerce, GA 30529. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. and a reception to follow. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.
