Irene Sailors

Irene Brooks Sailors, 91, of Jefferson, died Monday, October 13, 2008.

She was born in Jackson County, the daughter of the late James David and Martha Ann Moore Brooks. She was retired from Jackson County Government and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson. Mrs. Sailors was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Sailors; brothers and sisters, Ernest Brooks, Ina Bell Brooks, William M. (Buss) Brooks, Sam Brooks, Horace Brooks, Herman Brooks, Edna Mae Brooks and Howell Brooks.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Thurmond, Savannah; sons, Dean Sailors and Don Sailors, both of Jefferson; a brother, Dorsey Brooks, Hoschton; two granddaughters; one step-grandson; one step-great-granddaughter; and one step- great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 15, at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Pendergrass Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 14, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Luther Pruitt, Mike Haragee, Ronnie Coley, W.J. Sosebee, Jason Griffin and Randy Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Elrod and Dennis Elrod.
