LOGANVILLE - Vera Dove Still Loftin, 97, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Clearview Regional Medical Center in Monroe, of heart failure.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Robert Taylor Loftin, Jr., United States Air Force, Retired; granddaughter, Lauren Kate Loftin; parents, William Ira Still, Sr. and Dovie Viola Atkinson Still; and brothers and sister, William Ira Still, Jr., Harold Royce Still and Ruby Lee Still Blankenship.
Born in Youth, Georgia, on February 5, 1916, Mrs. Loftin attended Walton County Schools and graduated from Monroe High School. After finishing business school, she worked in Atlanta, until she met and married Col. Loftin on December 12, 1941 and began her career as a homemaker. After several moves during World War II and Korea, she settled in Atlanta, and then Decatur. In 2000 she moved to Bethlehem and then Loganville in 2012. She was raised in the Corinth Christian Church in Loganville. Once she was married, she became a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Atlanta where she was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and Crusaders Class. After Mrs. Loftin settled in Bethlehem and Loganville she again attended the Corinth Christian Church, where she was a member of the Progressive Co-ed Class. At 97 years old, grandmother, aunt Vera, or Miss Vera as she was affectionately called, lived independently, cooked her own meals, kept a spotless house, and lived with her kitty, Katie. She still drove and attended church regularly. At her birthday celebration this past February, she was seen on her knees playing with one of the children and she got up without any help. Until a year ago she had been in great health and had not been in a hospital as a patient since the births of her two boys some sixty years ago. An avid sports fan, she especially loved college football, basketball, baseball, golf and hockey, loved ones stated. She knew as much about the games as anyone. She loved her immediate and extended family, her family of friends, her church and her travel. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good book over television, unless there was a game being televised.
