KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Rhonwyn “Rhondy” Valdes Huff, 57, wife of Charles M. Huff, entered into eternal rest Friday, May 3, 2013.
She was born May 9, 1955, in Atlanta, the daughter of Eugenia “Gena” Breeden Valdes of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and the late Joseph Franklin Valdes. She attained her undergraduate degree from Converse College and graduate degrees from Georgia State College and Emory University. As a Medical Technologist, she was a former director of the Hemapheresis Unit under Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. She later attained a master's of teaching certificate at the College of Charleston.
Rhondy was a member of The Junior League of Charleston and the Chaine des Rotisseurs. After Hurricane Hugo, she became a board member of LowCountry ReLEAF. She was a member of the board of The Preservation Society of Charleston and Life Management Center of Charleston.
She was a member of Grace Church, Grace Church Hand Bell Choir, and Grace Cares. She captained the Country Club of Charleston Tennis Team in 2007 and was currently a member of RBTW (Reading Between the Wines) Book Club.
Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband of 27 years, Charles Huff; two children, Emily Palmer Huff and Joseph Moran Huff, both of Charleston; brother, James Valdes (Barbara), Austin, Texas; and a niece, Andrea Valdes Merritt, Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 26, in Grace Episcopal Church, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, S.C. at 3 pm. Entombment will follow in Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium.
