HULL - Charlie F. Marcus, 79, died Sunday, May 5, 2013.
A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a son of the late Larkin and Lizzie Sanders Marcus. He retired from Westinghouse/ABB after 37 years and was employed with Enterprise Rental and Acura/Volvo of Athens for the last 17 years. Mr. Marcus was a member and former deacon of Central Baptist Church, where he also had served as Sunday School Superintendent and in many other capacities over the years.
Mr. Marcus was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Marcus; two children, Sheree (Lynn) Hardigree, Hull, and Sandra (Keith) Hardeman, Winterville; brother, George (Faye-deceased) Marcus, Norcross; deceased brother, Omer and surviving sister-in-law, Carol Marcus, Atlanta; sisters, Effie Lou (C.L.-deceased) Smith, Winder, Mattie (Howard-deceased) Crawford, Athens, and Lucille (Oscar-deceased) Motes, Monroe; grandchildren, Ashley (J.J.) Brushaber, Jefferson, Casey Sprinkles, Winterville, Tabitha Hardeman, Sabrina Hardeman, and Daniel Kellum; great-granddaughter, Adalynn Hardeman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Central Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund.
