Brenda Jean Irvin Smith, 63, of Lula, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following a brief illness.
She was born in White County on January 8, 1945, the daughter of the late Telford Clinton Irvin and Gladys Hogan Irvin Rogers. She was a homemaker and a member of the Living Mission United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the Living Mission Ladies Club. She enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for Wednesday night church services, participating in several church activities and spending quality time with her family. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Homer Smith; stepfather, D.W. Rogers; and a brother, Curtis Irvin.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Smith, Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kim Smith, Lula; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Bernice Irvin and Carroll and Dot Irvin, all of Mt. Airy, Ernest and Judy Rogers and Dennis and Lisa Rogers, all of Baldwin; brothers, Roy and Jerry Rogers, both of Lula; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Gene Worley, Lula, Linda and Jimmy Allen, Maysville, Gail and Ronald Rylee, Karen and Ricky Gillstrap, and Deleace Carlan, all of Lula; sister-in-law, Betty Irvin, Lula; grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Brittney Smith, Brandon and Courtney Smith, and Laisa Smith; great-grandchildren, Dade Smith, Garrison and Isach Drake Smith; her late husband’s brother and sister-in-law, Wiley and Ruby Smith, Lula; sisters and brothers-in-law Louella and Merlin Thomas, Lula, and Christine and Jack Hulsey, Clermont; sister-in-law and special friend, Radella Smith, Clermont; special friend, Carol Greene, Lula; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 4, at the Living Mission United Methodist Church with Commissioner Tommy Irvin, and the Revs. Billy Nipper and Deron Crocker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.
