JEFFERSON - Dr. Claude Glenn Wilkes, 90, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013.
He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Claude Thomas and Rosa Glenn Wilkes. Dr. Wilkes was a retired veterinarian and a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, where he held the rank of captain and flew many missions during World War II. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1952 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine.
Glenn Wilkes was a loving patriarch whose love and support sustained his family throughout the years. His love, humor, and gracious spirit will be sorely missed by them. Dr. Wilkes was preceded in death by children, Kenneth Wilkes and Michelle Wilkes.
Survivors include his wife, Nina Jonette "Jo" Castleberry Wilkes, Jefferson; a daughter, Karen Wilkes Hale, Nicholson; son, Charles Thomas Wilkes, Londonderry, N.H.; grandchildren, Claudia Hale-Jinks and Collis Hale; and two great-grandchildren, Charley Jinks and John Jinks.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Ray officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park. The visitation will be held on Monday, January 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethany UMC Cemetery Fund, 4659 Brockton Rd., Jefferson, GA 30549, or the St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
