‘Barney’ Benton (1-7-13)

MONROE - William Earl “Barney” Benton, Sr., 89, died Monday, January 7, 2013.

He was born in Walton County on September 11, 1923, the son of the late Nell McDonald and Thomas Earl Benton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Gladys Pratt Benton; sons, Billy Benton and Mike Benton; brother, Max Benton; and a grandson, Chip Benton.

Survivors include a son and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Ruby Benton, Sharon Benton, and Debbie Bunn, all of Monroe; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Cohen Andrews, Monroe; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 10, at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Anchutz officiating. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Monroe, was in charge of arrangements.
