COLBERT - Rachel Pauline "Polly" Porterfield, 81, went to be with the Lord late Tuesday night, January 8, 2013, at her residence.
Born in Coweta County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Leona Moore Hudson. Mrs. Porterfield was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Doyle Porterfield; and a son, James "Red" Flanagan.
Survivors include children, Carolyn (Oneal) Smith, Danielsville, Dennis (Lynn) Flanagan, Watkinsville, Gary (Judy) Flanagan, Hull, Wayne (Nancy) Flanagan, Danielsville, Donnie (Mary) Flanagan, Colbert, Keith Porterfield, Danielsville, and Timothy Porterfield, Danielsville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and siblings, Charles Hudson, Comer, Eunice Malcolm, Athens, Myrtle O'Shields, Flowery Branch, and Opal Barnett, Jefferson.
She lived her last years with her son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Mary Flanagan and was very close to them.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 11, at 2 p.m. from the Bible Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Garrett and Robert Scarborough officiating. Interment will follow in the Danielsville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the other times at the home of Donnie and Mary Flanagan, located at 5896 Colbert-Danielsville Rd., Colbert. Mrs. Porterfield will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to the time of service.
Ivie Funeral Home, Madison County Chapel, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements.
