COMMERCE - Charles Algernon Thomas, Sr, 85, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Decatur, the son of the late Otis H. and Lulu Belle Gibbs Thomas. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta. Mr. Thomas was retired from the United States Army and also worked for 12 years with Jackson County Waste Management. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores O. Thomas; and a daughter, Dolores Diane Thomas.
Survivors include his second wife, Gladys B. Thomas, Commerce; children, Charles A. Thomas, Jr. (Terri), Stockbridge, Stephen R. Thomas (Odette), Austin, Texas, Carol L. Moon (Philip), McDonough, Sheryl L. Grey (Timothy, Sr.), Spring Hill, Fla., Valorie S. King, Clayton, Dana E. Singleton (Steven), Commerce, and David E. Thomas (Rhonda), Commerce; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, December 21, at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, Ga., with the Rev. Jeff Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, December 20, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
