Gene Hopkins (12-12-12)

WINDER - Gene Hopkins, 79, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012.

A native of Winder, he was the son of the late Joseph Hightower and Mary Dell Robison Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Craft Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was a United States Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean Conflict and had served as a Barrow County Commissioner. He was a member of the Winder First United Methodist Church, the Winder Noon Lions Club, and a retiree of the United States Postal Service.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Sharon Hopkins, Bethlehem, and Rusty and Susan Hopkins, Gainesville; grandchildren, Jason Hopkins, Jeremy Hopkins, Lainey Hopkins and Andrew Hopkins; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Ramey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Tippens officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, December 14, from 5 to 8 p.m.
