HOMER – Louise Shannon, 103, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012, at a local care facility.
She was born June 14, 1909, in Banks County, the daughter of the late Melvin Fletcher and Mary Frances Gillespie Shannon. Mrs. Shannon was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Miss Shannon began her teaching career at Mt. Pleasant School with 10 years of service and then went on to teach 10 years at Benton High School in Nicholson. She retired from Banks County Elementary School with 16 years of service. After retirement, she devoted much of her “free” time to crocheting and reading. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. She also served on the cemetery committee for a number of years.
Survivors include a brother, Marvin Shannon, Forest Park; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, at 1 p.m. at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Syl Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery in Homer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday.
