OAKWOOD - Bea Gilstrap Scroggs, 94, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was a loving Christian wife and mother, born August 25, 1918, the daughter of the late Pete C. and Bertha Savage Gilstrap in White County. She worked at a textile mill in Atlanta during World War II and married Harry D. Scroggs on January 13, 1946, shortly after Harry returned from World War II and were blessed with three children. Mrs. Scroggs was a member of First Baptist Church of Oakwood, where she was an active member for 66 years.
Bea was also preceded in death by sons, Glen Frank (18 months), and Charles Wayne (44 years); brothers, Candler (Shorty) Gilstrap, Sam Gilstrap, Earnest Gilstrap, Dillard Gilstrap, and Bill Gilstrap; and sisters, Gussie Bogan, Lucy Head, and Lillie Gooch.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Harry Scroggs, Oakwood; son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Barbara Scroggs, Gainesville; former daughter-in-law and husband, Brenda Scroggs and Jimmy Adams; grandchildren, Drs. Drew Robert and Lisa Valeria Scroggs Ekman, Kimberly Joy Scroggs, Jeffery Taylor and Amber Camilla Scroggs, Christopher Michael Scroggs, and Jason Daniel Scroggs; great-grandchildren, Molly Elizabeth Ekman, Fischer Charles Ekman, Elisabeth Arwen Scroggs and Madison Lilly Scroggs; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, from the chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Oakwood City Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Fenlon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
