HUDSON RIVER COMMUNITY, COMMERCE - David Eugene Whaley, 43, passed away Thursday evening, October 4, 2012, at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born April 1, 1969, in Decatur, he was the son of Clara Rena Frady Hudler and stepfather Bobby Hudler of Martin, and the late Bruce Eugene Whaley. He was an Eagle Scout, and an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and gardener. He had been a cook at Zaxby's and Goodfellow's of Commerce, and Denny's of Norcross, and a machinist at Whaley's Machine Shop. He presently was a machinist at Kabota of Jefferson.
Survivors in addition to his mother and stepfather include daughters, Samantha Sanders, Commerce, and Nacole Sanders, Nicholson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Kerri Whaley, Carnesville, and Doug and Buffie Whaley, Commerce; nieces and nephews, Allison, Chance, Cheyenne, Dawson, Megan, and Will; and stepmother, Michell Whaley, Norcross.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, at the B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel with Leigh Eason officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening prior to his service.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, friends may make memorials in David's memory to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
B.D. Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, is in charge of arrangements.
