James Brewer (9-25-12)

ATHENS - James L. Brewer, 81, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012.

He was born in Jefferson, the son of the late James and Grace Ayers Brewer. Mr. Brewer was a member of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church and was retired from SCT Yarns in Jefferson, where he worked as an overhauler. Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his son, Gary Brewer; and brother, Donald Brewer.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel Dills Brewer, Athens; children, Ann (Harry) Dawson, Athens, Randall Brewer, Clarksville, Linda Brewer Rice, Greene County, Don Brewer, Danielsville, Ken (Cindy) Brewer, Hartwell, John (Tracey) Brewer, Moncks Corner, S.C.; sister, Marita Rose, Athens; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Miles and the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. The burial will follow in the Crooked Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with his grandsons honored as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
