Alice Elizabeth Roberts Moss, daughter of the late Arthur and Mae Roberts, was born May 30, 1913, in Buford. Alice died Friday, September 7, 2012, in her home at the age of 99 years old. Alice attended Spelman College and soon after married Odis Moss, Sr. They moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where together they raised 13 children.
Alice would best be described as being mild-tempered, giving, wise, thrifty, and industrious. She was a gracious hostess who treated everyone with dignity and respect. Each of her 13 children thought that they were her favorite because she treated them all the same by making them feel special.
Blessed with longevity, Alice never allowed herself to become callous nor did she lower her standards or allow herself to become conditioned by the attitudes prevalent in this world today. She taught her children value and to focus on what was more important in life. She was a strong woman, capable wife, beautiful mother, and a God-fearing woman.
Alice Moss was predeceased by her loving husband, Odis Moss, Sr., her siblings, and dear son, Burby Moss. Alice is survived by her children, Arthur Everett Moss, Odis Sethro (Joyce) Moss, Jr., Lottie Margaret Spencer, Dorothea Gloria (Irving) Johnson, Marva Ann Cheapoo, Mae Alice Baker, Elsie Hannah Shelley, Genevieve Moss, Loretta Robinson, Joan Bonita Moss, Theresa (Emanuel) Sims, Roger William Moss, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 13, at 1 p.m. at Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home, Inc., 55 South Alexander St., Toccoa, GA 30577. The family will accept friends on Wednesday, September 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home, Inc.
